So Pirate Life has decided to make ANOTHER hoppy American style ale for the 4th beer in their core range. Seems a bit counter intuitive and appears to create a pretty one dimensional list, however, this is quite an important beer as it fills in a pretty big gap between our Pale Ale and the IIPA. Not to mention allows Throwback to be its own beer down in Mid-Strength land. So we have a smashable mid, a well-balanced Pale Ale and a big broody, dank citrusy hop-bomb of a Double IPA – what’s this IPA going to be like? Well, with a couple of pretty serious beers on either side, our IPA is bright, fruity and full of liquid fun.
Pirate Life ‘White Labs’ Pilsner
The Mighty Pilsner. A true Brewers beer. Requiring a deft touch, careful handling of fermentation and subsequent conditioning, there’s nowhere to hide any brewing issues. We were lucky enough to be contacted by Chris White of renowned yeast and critters producers, White Labs, based down in Miramar, San Diego California (Yep, where TOPGUN was based) to brew a beer with him while he visited in October. Pilsners are higher hopped and with a touch more bitterness than your run of the mill, industrial brewed Lager. On the Hop front, we’ve banged in a bunch of Aussie Summer, Kiwi Motueka and a dash of Seppo Mosaic. You’re looking at a stone fruity, citriusy, slightly tropical hop presence, balanced with a full, yet, crisp finish. Perfect for a cracker of a Summer ahead of us.
The brief we gave ourselves for our flagship beer was that it should be able to be sent to any bar in San Diego and to stand proudly alongside the many great Pales produced in, and around, the west coast of the US. The schematic for a West Coast Pale Ale is bucket loads of big US hops, full malty backbone and a characterful yeast. That is what this Pale Ale is all about. Enjoy as fresh as possible.
Simplistically, to achieve a big flavourful IIPA you need: Big Malt + Big Hops + Big Fermentation. Pirate Life IIPA is a big beer with big delicious fresh flavours that we hope you will enjoy by sticking it in your big mouth. Peace.
